Call Assembly members today; come to a hearing Tuesday

JVP California, our new statewide formation, has been working hard in opposition to SB 1287, a state  bill that would unconstitutionally undermine free speech on campuses in an effort to stigmatize and suppress protests against Israeli actions and in support of Palestinian rights.
Please use this action alert from ACLU to contact your Assembly member and those on the Assembly Higher Education Committee. Do it now, as the committee will hear the bill  Tuesday. It will then likely go to the Judiciary Committee two weeks later.
If you possibly can, join us at the hearing Tuesday, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the (old) Capitol, room 437. Unfortunately, we can't know exactly when SB 1287 will come up, amid 13 other bills. But when it does, everyone present can line up at the microphone, identify yourself and say in a few seconds why you're opposed.
Attached is a one-page statement JVP is distributing to legislators explaining our opposition.
Thanks very much for stepping up to help. And please stay tuned as SB 1287 likely advances toward a final vote, and as another bill we're opposing, SB 1277, goes to hearing next week.
