For the past eight months, a group, DavisGig, composed of community members and technical experts, have explored the feasibility of providing fiber to the home (FTTH) (as well as businesses and government), resulting in the provision of gigabit internet to every unit. This goes far beyond what the Yolo County Broadband initiative proposes. DavisGig had done a great deal of groundwork, and volunteer members of this group should be co-opted to work on the task force. The task force should be tasked with formally establishing the feasibility of FTTH, nail down cost estimates, hold public hearings, and return to the Council within six months with concrete proposals, which should include finance options, such as a bond, utility users tax and any other options. Hopefully, such a proposal could be on the November, 2016 ballot.<br>
