<div dir="ltr">Just a clarification of the city's strategic position regarding the franchise:<div><br></div><div>In 2018, the city will not be the franchising authority. The state has taken over that responsibility, and the licensing of Comcast will be rolled into the state-wide franchise. That poses a problem for the city and schools (the INET partners) because they will have no leverage with which to guarantee reasonable terms for ongoing use of the fiber.</div><div><br></div><div>Ironically, the city will get the best deal from Comcast if municipal broadband is a possibility, but one they still think they can discourage. Probably the worst deal if the municipal fiber issue is decided -- either way -- but not available as a replacement. The last interactions I've had with the City Staff have been

Looks like this task force is a step back from even getting

1) Thanks to all your efforts, we have a council item on
the consent
calendar for Tues Dec 1 meeting to recommend Davis adopt
the Yolo
Broadband Plan and make a Task Force to help the city
decide what is
best to do for Davis for fiber.

pages. I don't think this would have materialized

City level without everyone being a force, and asking

delivering on meetings, and Public Outreach.
